Hurricane Claudette A deafening crack of thunder rattled the windows and shook the doors, the entire house seemed to shake, catching me completely by surprise. I immediately stopped what I was doing and stepped out onto the porch, it didn't take long before a massive bolt struck just above my next door neighbors house no more than a few hundred feet away. I ran back inside, grabbed my tripod and camera, quickly setting the focus and exposure as I'm heading back out. Moving as fast as I can I point the camera towards the now black skies to the south and open the shutter. A few seconds later a blinding flash and enormous blast of thunder literally knocked me to the ground, I could actually smell the electricity in the air as I reached over and closed the shutter. Honestly, I wasn't sure what the image would look like, I was thinking that it may be overexposed due to the close proximity to the lightning, but after I got the film back from the lab I was very, very pleased, not only with the exposure but with the composition and the color as well.
