McDonald Observatory, Hobby-Eberly Telescope

Star Trails & Leonid Meteor

This six hour time exposure was taken on the morning of Nov. 17th, 1999, from the Hobby-Eberly parking lot at the McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mountains, Texas. This is the only image that I was able to capture with a meteor in it, despite setting up three cameras and shooting three nights in a row.

The best night was the morning of the 18th when I counted 50 meteors between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. but none of these were bright enough to capture on film. George Hosek
