| I captured this image of great egrets
in breeding plumage on one of my trips to the bird rookeries in Christmas
Bay near Surfside Texas. I was able to get close to the island by using a
small flat bottom boat to maneuver through the shallow bay and oyster
reefs.
The boat's flat bottom and flat deck doubled as a solid platform for my tripod and helped me get high enough above the marsh grass so I had a clear shot at the birds without disturbing them.
