From The Mayor’s Desk We are beginning a very exciting year filled with many challenges intertwined with many hopes and dreams. Rodeo Palms rooftops are multiplying with 300 building permits and an increasing number have been issued. Sonic will be ready for business by the end of the week. Please stop by and welcome them to our city. Manvel City Hall will become the information center for the Alvin/Manvel Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, January 25. This is a great opportunity to let people know what is available in our area. First National Bank will have their grand opening on Wednesday, January 25 from 4 to 6pm. Prospective developers are coming to City Hall on a daily basis inquiring about what is coming our way and what they would like to contribute. On Saturday, February 11, the West U Warm-up will have their annual bike run come through our city. This is in preparation for the upcoming MS150 bike tour from Houston to Austin. There will be an anticipated 1000 bikers supporting a 30, 50 and 62 mile course. On February 15 at 2pm, the Brazoria County Court Annex will have their grand opening. As you all know, our 24 hour dispatching system began a 24-hour system as of January 2. We are in the lengthy process of applying for our own “911” service to better serve our Manvel community. The West U Warm-up makes a donation to the City of Manvel each year after their bike run. This year they are contributing $1800 to pay for the playground mulch and the barrier, which will finish this project at Croix Park. They also made a $500 donation to our park at City Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Collins and Mr. and Mrs. John Boyd have made a most generous donation of playground equipment to Croix Park. It was their wish to offer the youngsters from ages 2 to 5 playground equipment to play on. Manvel High School hopes to have the administration begin occupancy around the first of March. What an special time for our 9 and 10 grade students to be able to attend high school in Manvel! The bids for the Hope Lumber water line will be opened on Tuesday. This project should be underway soon bringing water eastward. Manvel has a new Code Enforcement and Fire Marshall. His name is Billy Gerber. Please make him feel welcome in our city. Please welcome our newest police officer, Officer Adam Arriaga. Officer J. D. Greene is still busy catching suspects trying to take what is not theirs at Rodeo Palms. Thank you for your continued support. “Together we can make a difference”. Delores M. Martin, Mayor Manvel VFD Starts Celebrating Early The MVFD had a Sign the Beam party to celebrate the new fire station’s progress. Signing a beam at a construction site is mostly for posterity but it gave the firemen and their families an opportunity to include themselves as part of the project. The station is scheduled for an April completion, barring any complications. The public will be pleasantly surprised at the finished product, which of course is mostly due to your ESD-3’s tax dollars. There will be an Open House to show off the new residence, but you will be well informed. The old station will be turned into a training facility. Fire Chief Steve DelBello signs his name on The Beam at the first of many department and/or family gatherings. Fireman, family member, and friends took turns adding their name, and some prayers, to the beam. The word spread throughout the week and more people were looking for markers to put their signature on the beam.
